In honor of National Police Week, Ohio’s most prominent law enforcement officers urge the public to recognize and thank the local police department.
In the afternoon on Tuesday, Attorney General Dave Yost visited several law police training facilities to pay tribute.
The Stark State College police academy received a special designation from Yost to be a STAR training facility, which sets a higher standard for quality of the basic academies that are approved through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
Stark State College
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost recently recognized the college’s Law Enforcement Academy as one among the top schools in Ohio. This award is awarded by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission which recognizes the programs that go above and beyond to ensure that students receive high-quality training and the tools they need to be successful in the field.
Stark State has a close relation with Ohio’s four year public universities and colleges. It means that the majority of associate degrees earned at Stark State can be transferred to any Ohio four-year institution. This is particularly helpful for people who would like to get a bachelor’s degree without moving far from their home.
An individual who has earned an associate of arts (AA) degree at Stark State College can transfer to Miami University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English Studies. Based on the coursework they’ve completed while at Stark State College, this will result in the possibility of 124 credits to count towards getting the Bachelor of Arts degree.
Central Ohio Technical College
The cost-sharing arrangement between Central Ohio Technical College and Ohio State Newark has been up and running since. The two colleges are able to share their facilities and personnel, which creates a lower cost of education for students.
Attorney General Yost has recently honored COTC with the STAR Academy Award for its basic peace officer training program. The award is presented to academies that go above and beyond basic guidelines for training in order to ensure that police the officers are well-prepared for their job.
Yost stated that he is proud of the accomplishments of the police academy at COTC since they’re working to keep our communities secured and safe.
Through their entire careers, every one of these law enforcement professionals is a shining example of public service. Chief Fowler’s efforts to mentor young people in the local community who are at-risk, coaches Indian Creek Chiefs football and serve as a board member of a center for child advocacy will make him stand out an outstanding leader in his community.
Kent State University Police Academy
Kent State University and the College of Applied and Technical Studies of Kent State University are two of the four regional partners that develop “OPOTA Close to Home” a partnership that expands Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy’s (OPOTA), training opportunities for Ohio police officers.
